The Bellairs Apartments

Guildford, Surrey

The Bellairs Apartments was a unique conversion and renovation project conducted in collaboration with Reside Developments.  11 individual one and two bedroom apartments with highly specified interiors arranged across single or duplex storeys in a prime location within walking distance of Guildford High Street.

Formerly the home of the Guildford School of Acting, this beautiful building with its Victorian façade dating back from 1885 was left derelict in 2010 when the GSA relocated to brand new purpose-build accommodation within the University of Surrey campus.

Our first task was to reimagine the space whilst retaining the core character of the building.  We were committed to retaining and restoring many of the original features including specialist brick restoration, Dutch gables, Juliet balconies, full height windows and stained glass windows and original tiled flooring.

Additional architectural features were created to mirror the period and add to the overall aesthetics. Cabriolet window balconettes, hidden terraces and an Italian-inspired landscaped courtyard enhanced the character of the outside whilst internally, dramatic vaulted ceilings, vellux windows, split-level accommodation, internal private patios and feature roof lanterns were eye-catching features.


The calibre of the completed apartments was testament to our planning and vision. Each apartment was unique but all shared our meticulous attention to detail and finish. The specification ensured a perfect fusion of the past with the future, including contemporary finishes such as under floor heating, increased thermal and sound insulation, wet rooms and the sophisticated ‘Smart Home Hub’ automation system for heating, lighting, hot water and smoke detectors.
